Think of Neurofeedback as a personal brain training session that challenges the brain to improve its function.
Just as physical therapy strengthens the body…neurofeedback strengthens the brain. All learning is based on the brain’s ability to observe our behavior, take in feedback about the outcome of our actions, and modify itself based upon that feedback. All of our acts, thoughts, and feelings originate in and are modified by the brain, based upon this feedback process. Neurofeedback (also known as EEG biofeedback) allows the brain to witness and modify its own behavior through the use of a digital “mirror”… a brain/computer interface that lets the brain see its own activity in real time. When the brain moves towards a more regulated state, the computer interface allows the brain to receive auditory, visual, and tactile feedback that reinforces that positive change. Across time, this new more functional brain pattern is strengthened until it replaces former dysregulated patterns. When this happens, cognitive skills improve and behavior and emotions become better controlled.
Neurofeedback is an individually prescribed form of exercise in which the brain is given a digital “mirror” of its activity when it makes changes that bring it closer to normal functioning.
Neuromodulation is a non-invasive form of spacific brain stimulation designed to influence neurotransmitter production, blood flow and EEG activity
